A Day in the Life at Kollel Toras Chaim
Students begin each halachic issue with in-depth study in pairs (chevrusas) of the relevant texts in the Talmud, Rishonim and other commentators. The point of this is to find the basic halacha, without resorting to unnecessary stringencies.

After the texts have thoroughly analyzed, students come together to discuss their findings and debate different approaches to the issue. “There Torah has seventy faces,” as our Sages tell us. No wonder the debates are so lively!

The next step is practical application of the halacha. In these photos, Rabbi Travis and the students examine various foods while discussing whether they may be prepared on Shabbos. This teaches the young scholars how to answer the hands-on questions of halacha that they will frequently be asked to address when they are working in the community.
